The FestungsBahn is the oldest funicular railway in Austria and takes 2,000 visitors to Hohensalzburg Fortress every day. In 1892, the year it was built, it was already taking around 400 passengers per hour up to the fortress. Since then, the technology has evolved and the railway has changed. Find out more about the ‘Tröpferlbahn’, as the FestungsBahn used to be called. Listen in and off you go.
